Patriotism. A dying breed

Now as an American I love my country. Personally I think it's he best country in the world, or at least once was. This country has its share of problems. Many of them form our government, and many of them made us the American people. Why are we in this mess. Well I could tell you about how stupid my president is, or how the liberals are ruining this country. Instead I decided to point out a problem we as a whole nation have that could be part of the problem. Many, if not most, have lost their sense of patriotism. Sure we all light fireworks on the Fourth of July, and have our parades, but what ever happened to some of the other things we used to do. What ever happened to saying the pledge of a legions in the morning as we start class? What ever happened to God bless America? Why was it that I was the only person to place my hand over my heart at the Fourth of July parade last year as my nations flag passed by. I can still remember looking into that soldiers eyes. They seemed sad, but I think I made him feel better. With solute from him, and a nod from me he passed on. Still no one placed their hands on their hearts further down the street.

Have we as Americans forgotten what that flag represents. It's not just our freedom, but also the countless lives that gave up their blood, sweat, tears, time, and even their very lives just so we can be where we are today. Now I know that my country has had some rough times. In Vietnam American soldiers would shoot even small children, but not all soldiers are like that. No most of our nations troops are not. Most of them are truly frighting for our country, and if I didn't have mild cerebral palsy I would have already joined part of our armed forces. If it were not of my country Hitler could have still had a chance, South Korea would be under Communistic control, and the world would be in more danger if it weren't for us being in the middle east fighting a group of extremists who wants Isreal dead, as well as us and many other countries, yet we fight it nearly alone. My country sacrifices so much the world, not just me. And I will continue showing my respects to my nation as long as I live, or if God forbid, it falls, and it's people forget entirely. Only then those thoughts of respect would become honoring a memory of what this nation once was.

We as Americans need to rise up. We need to make things right. We need to support our troops, say the pledge of a legions, and continue to strive to make our nation great again. It's not too late.
