It's made some heads spin. From what I've heard New York is planning on making a law that makes it so you cant buy any soda over 16oz for health reasons, and such. Is this stupid? Yes, but I do understand their reasoning. Soda is a major cause of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. So controlling amounts would be good right? Well if you want your life to be treated like a dictatorship in a little way then yes. Though I have a better solution for the health dalema. One that would just be all around better.
Instead of reducing the amount that can be sold, in which that will do little to nothing in the case of consumption, just make the soda healthier in the first place. Now of course soda is not really healthy in general, but it can be improved. How might you ask? By not using disgusting high fructose corn syrup, and using real cane sugar; that's how. Studies have shown that high fructose corn syrup, and other sugars substitutes like glucose, and sucrose have been know to cause diabetes, heart disease, and obesity at a much more substantial rate than good old natural can sugar. The only reason that soda companies and such dont use cane sugar is because it would cost them too much money. I call that bull though because I can buy a 20ozer of Mountain Dew Throwback, which uses can sugar by the way, for the same price as a normal Mountain Dew. That being said I still drink soda with high fructose syrup in it, but I have reduced my intake greatly.
It's not just high fructose corn syrup either either. Fried foods should not use hydrogenated oils, Diet sodas should use things like stevia instead of aspartame that is actually worse for you than high fructose corn syrup. Fast food could be in some cases maybe even good for you if they used natural ingredients. The same for all the other processed food we eat. So my solution to the problem is not to ban it all, but to make those companies comply to healthier food standards. Even if it would cost more it wouldn't be that much, and your health is a bit more important anyways.
All in all we need to control our sugar, and fat intake, but its a little hard when almost everything we eat in this wonderful country is practically just sugar and fat. We can all live healthy, but hell the major food companies are sure making it hard. I'm against too much government regulation in things, but wont hurt us. The United States already has food controls such as the meat inspection act, so just making it law not to use high fructose corn syrup and such is just a promotion offer, and a chance for out nation to do some actual good for the people.
